UPDATE: Man dies Tuesday morning after being struck by train on Mishawaka railroad overnight

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- UPDATE: The man has died from his injuries in the hospital as of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police say the man's identity is still unknown at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Mishawaka Police Department was notified at approximately 8:10 p.m. that along the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, an eastbound train traveling at approximately 20 mph struck a man.

According to police, the man struck appeared to be sitting on the tracks, and when first responders located him, he was still breathing.

It is not known at this time why the male was on the tracks. 

His condition remains critical, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
