Man sentenced to 77 years in prison for Osceola drug deal murder
Elkhart County Jail ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- One man has nearly eight decades of prison ahead of him after being convicted in a 2025 murder.
Daqwan Burnett was sentenced to a total of 77 years in prison for convictions of Murder and Firearm Enhancement.
In March of 2025, sheriff's deputies responded to the Arbors at Riverbend Apartments in Osceola around 2:43 p.m. for a reported shooting. Deputies arrived to find the victim, Roosevelt Lewis III, shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Through an investigation, deputies learned the victim's girlfriend had arranged a drug deal between Lewis and Burnett, the seller. Documents state Burnett pulled up to the girlfriend's residence while Lewis was also out front. That's when Burnett shot Lewis before driving off.
