Man charged in fatal 2025 shooting found currently incompetent to stand trial

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The man who was charged in a fatal shooting in 2025 is not currently competent to stand trial, per a new ruling.

After reviewing medical reports on Narles Brown Sr., court officials ordered him to be sent to a mental health facility. The court will be notified when Brown is considered competent to stand trial again.

Brown was charged in a shooting that happened in February 2025. Mishawaka police officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Division Street, where 23-year-old Asia Phillip and 23-year-old Tyrees Brown were found shot. Philips later died from her injuries.

Narles Brown Sr. was formally charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, and Firearm Enhancement.
