ORIGINAL STORY:

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Braxton Bird was found guilty of murder and criminal recklessness, but not attempted murder, according to the St. Joseph County Police Department.

Braxton Bird was charged on July 27, 2022 for murder, criminal recklessness and attempted murder, in regard to a June 26,2022 shooting resulting in the death of 28-year-old Rhema Harris.

Two of the witnesses confirmed Bird and his 14-year-old brother fired shots from the vehicle.

Spent rifle casings were found inside Bird's vehicle.

A statement from St. Joseph County Sheriff Bill Redman calls this conviction "bittersweet."

"Although justice will be served, our County Police family continues to miss Rhema and we send our continued love and prayers to her mother Georgia and the entire family. Her life was taken from us way too soon as the result of senseless violence committed by children barely old enough to drive. The youth gun violence in our community must stop." -Sheriff Bill Redman

His sentencing is scheduled for December 7.
