Man found guilty in shooting of ex's new boyfriend

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from Kosciusko Circuit/Superior Court reveal 41-year-old Daniel Romero was found guilty of two felonies in connection with an incident on Dec. 22, 2024.

A jury found Romero guilty of Burglary Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 1 Felony, and Burglary with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 2 Felony.

Romero was in was initially charged with Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony, and Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony, as well.

Romero's sentencing is set for Oct. 27.

On Dec. 22, 2024, Kosciusko County dispatch received a call for a shooting at a home on Garfield Street in Warsaw.

Police arrived and were informed by Romero's ex-girlfriend that he'd shot her boyfriend.

The bullet grazed the boyfriend's head and hit his shoulder, but he survived.

Romero reportedly broke into the home by kicking the front door in before shooting the boyfriend and leaving.

Police also found a large wrench on the ground by the door, which Romero was said to have been holding when he approached the door.

Officers later located and arrested Romero. While searching his truck, police found a 9mm Taurus handgun with nickel plated cartridge case and bullet. Authorities say this was consistent to the evidence located at the scene of the shooting.
