Man charged with felonies after argument leads to shots fired

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports on March 2 at around 4:24 p.m. the Flock Raven gunshot detection system sent an alert that shots were fired near 524 E. 11th St.
Soon after, the La Porte County 911 Regional Dispatch Center received info indicating Michigan City resident Michael Johnson fired the shots.
The report states Johnson was then reported to still have been in the area of 11th Street.
Officers then arrived in the area.
Police say their initial investigation determined two men got into an argument, with one man accusing the other of almost hitting him with his vehicle.
After thew argument, Johnson, who was not part of the incident, then allegedly discharged several shots from his handgun.
The report states Johnson ten made verbal threats to the man in the vehicle.
There were no injuries or damage from the gunshots.
Through the investigations, officers gathered several pieces of evidence including spent cartridge casings, bullets, a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, and photographs.
It was also determined Johnson is not eligible to legally possess a firearm.
Johnson was subsequently arrested on probable cause for Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a Level 4 Felony, Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony, and Criminal Recklessness, a Level 6 Felony.
Judge Jaime Oss with the La Porte County Superior Court 1 determined probable cause existed for the formal filing of the criminal charges on Monday.
Johnson was given a $20,000 cash bond.
