Man accused of leading police on chase with stolen vehicle in Sturgis

STURGIS, Mich. – A man was arrested for allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle, the Sturgis Police Department reported.

At 7:56 p.m. on July 1, Sturgis Public Safety Officers saw a stolen vehicle traveling north on North Nottawa Road near Memorial Drive.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver, an 18-year-old man, allegedly continued north on M-66 and out of the city.

The driver then drove through a field near M-66 and Marvin Road until the vehicle got stuck.

The driver and his passenger then ran out of the vehicle and into the woods.

The driver was eventually taken into custody.

K9 Officer Odin was deployed and tracked the passenger of the vehicle through a wooded area into a swamp.

The passenger was then taken into custody.

Both the driver and passenger are being held at the St. Joseph County Jail on the following charges:

  • Fleeing and eluding
  • Resisting and obstructing
  • Possessing a stolen vehicle
  • Possessing drug paraphernalia
