Lou Holtz to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump announced Friday that Coach Lou Holtz will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

A date for the ceremony has not been set.

The president said he is friends with Holtz and he received many letters of support from other coaches recommending Holtz receive the honor.

"We've looked at Lou's life and his career and what he's done for charity and football it was obvious he was a great coach. But what he's done beyond even coaching. So Lou will be getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom," President Trump said.

Holtz attended Friday's press conference.

Holtz was the coach for Notre Dame football from 1986 to 1996.
