Lonnie Bedwell sets out to ski the grand slam

DUGGER, Ind. -- One veteran is defying all odds, skiing to the highest points across the world, and that's Indiana resident, Lonnie Bedwell.

Bedwell is a blind veteran who lost his eyesight during a hunting accident. Being blind for 28 years has not stopped Bedwell from making the most out of his life. Now he is taking on his biggest challenge yet, the grand slam adventure.

Bedwell will ski all seven continents, and the North and South Pole making him one of only 73 people to hit the highest peaks at these destinations. But he tells ABC57's Sidney Moore that he doesn't do it for himself, but rather for others like him who may be afraid of taking a leap into a new journey.

Bedwell says, "Take chances, help face the fear you know, humble yourself. This is for anybody you know. There's nothing wrong with being to having pride of who you are and what you've done, but it's foolish whenever something happens that you can't say, give me a hand up, not a handout, but a hand up."

A crew from Common Ground Films is teaming up with Blueline Pictures, an Indiana based film company, to follow Bedwell on his journey, creating a feature length documentary showcasing his life and experiences.
