Logan Center, SJCPD offer new resources for special needs families
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Logan Center has teamed up with the St. Joseph County Police Department to create a new resource available in St. Joseph County, designed to enhance the safety and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community.
"St. Joseph County 911 Communications Center is now offering a 911 Special Needs Form that allows families, guardians and providers to supply critical information about their loved one or client directly to first responders," officials said.
"When you call 911 and give the provided address, the information entered on the form will be sent immediately to the responding officers, paramedics, or firefighters, giving them the tools they need to help your loved one or client in the best way possible."
Key Features of the 911 Special Needs Form:
- Personalized Support: Provide details about your loved one’s unique needs, such as communication preferences, calming techniques, or medical conditions, to guide first responders.
- Photo Uploads: Upload a recent photo to help first responders recognize your loved one in an emergency. This can also assist in the case of elopement, ensuring their image can be distributed quickly and efficiently to aid in a safe return.
- Privacy Assurance: The information shared through this form will only be accessible to emergency services and will not be shared with the public or any unauthorized individuals.
"This tool is a significant step forward in ensuring that first responders are equipped with the knowledge they need to act quickly, compassionately, and effectively when your loved one or client may need it most," SJCPD said.
How to Complete the Form:
- Go online and access the 911 form
- Fill out the 911 Form with information about your loved one or client.
- Upload a recent close photo of their face with no obstructions like a hat and be sure the individual is the only one in the photo.
