NOW: Halloween is brewing in retail stores, here’s why.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Halloween has come early this year for consumers to enjoy Summerween. Retail stores such as T.J. Maxx, Home Goods, and Bath and Body Works have rolled out their fall favorites.

Stephanie Carls, Retail Insights Expert at RetailMeNot, understands that “no one wants to see skeletons next to sunscreen.”

However, some consumers, like Anessa Smith, are excited to see the shelves lined with ghosts, pumpkins, and witches.

“I mean it’s pretty cool because it's almost like the next holiday, so like why not,” said Smith.

According to a National Retail Federation Survey, Halloween spending is off the charts. Spending hit $12.2 billion last year and is expected to reach just under $12 billion this year.

Consumers are the main drivers of this early arrival, but they are split into two different groups.

“Those who just enjoy Summerween and have some fun with the season they are enjoying technically all year long,” said Carls.

Carls explained that Halloween is not just a holiday anymore, but rather a lifestyle that some prefer to enjoy all year round.

The other side of consumers are searching for deals before peak season in September and October.

“Consumers are asking: how can I go ahead and stretch this budget, where are my savings going to be in my favor,” said Carls. “So they’re also using different sales.”

Whether you are a Halloween fanatic, searching for savings, or avoiding the holiday racks altogether, Summerween is here to stay at least on the shelves.
