DUNLAP, Ind. -- Concord Trustee, Mike Malooly, sat down with ABC57 Monday to explain why he, along with several others, could lose their jobs if proposed Senate Bill 287 is signed into law.

Senate Bill 287 is a bill that would require school board members to identify their political party in elections, just like any other race.

The Federal Hatch Act, as well as the Indiana Judicial Code, prohibits federal employees or those who work for the court systems from running for partisan office.

Since Malooly works as a probation officer, he claims he would need to resign from his position as a board trustee at Concord Community Schools if the bill is passed.

Co-author of the bill and District 12 Senator, Blake Doriot, says the bill is about providing transparency among school districts.

The bill has passed the Senate Elections committee with a favorable review and will be voted on in the state senate sometime this month.
