ELKHART, Ind. - An attack on a local realtor is prompting increased safety measures for those who work in the home-selling industry.
The Elkhart County Board of Realtors held a realtor safety seminar Thursday at Lerner Theater in Elkhart.
The key note speaker was a man whose mom, a realtor in Arkansas, was killed by one of her clients in 2014.
The seminar was prompted by an attack on one of the organization's member realtors while she was showing a home in St. Joseph County in April of this year.
Last year, the Board of Realtors created a Realtor Safety Task Force to establish enhanced safety programs, tools and protocols for all members.
At the recommendation of the task force, the Board contracted with Real Agent Guard to provide all members with a safety app for enhanced security measures and location tracking.
The Board is also hosting meeting with brokers and owners to discuss safety protocols, and it is offering RAD self-defense classes at the Board office.
