Tri-County Workforce Homeownership Initiative

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County has joined Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County and Habitat for Humanity of Marshall County as part of the Tri-County Workforce Homeownership Initiative to create 126 new affordable homes in the region.

The initiative is supported by $4.1 million in READI 2.0 funding, through the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership, along with additional public and private investments.

The Habitat affiliates will build 78 homes in St. Joseph County, 36 in Elkhart County, and 12 in Marshall County.

In Elkhart County, officials say the plan includes 22 single-family homes on Elkhart’s north side off C.R. 15, while an additional 14 are planned in Habitat’s Homer Avenue neighborhood.

Construction and development are set to take place in phases, with Habitat affiliates working alongside municipal, business, philanthropic, and community partners to move forward.

The READI 2.0 investment is a regional commitment to addressing the need for affordable workforce housing and expanding homeownership opportunities for families throughout the region.
