MICHIANA. -- Wednesday, May 28 is World Hunger Day, a day which puts food insecurity in the spotlight.

The theme this year is “Sowing Resilience”, which involves zeroing in on how climate change and weather events impact food sources.

ABC57 sat down with two local food pantries to talk about their needs in the community and how they support local residents who need support.

Those pantries included the First United Methodist Church in South Bend, which also hosts a soup kitchen every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Their food pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

In Elkhart County, Hearts United For Bristol has seen a significant rise in need for their food pantry services, setting records for the number of visits in the month of April.

HUB is open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

More information on HUB and their life services can be found HERE.
