Local car dealer accepting offers on viral South Bend pick-up truck

Gates Automotive

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Local residents may see a familiar pick-up truck popping up as an ad via social media from local car dealership, Gates Automotive.

Gates confirmed to ABC57 that the business is accepting offers on the recently viral 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS truck, once owned by South Bend resident Marcellus "Mo" Riles.

The truck brought national attention to South Bend after it went viral locally from how damaged it was, yet functional enough to get Riles to and from work.

Local business owner, Colin Crowel, of CarGuys Auto Detailing, then started GoFundMe on Nov. 30, 2025, after seeing pictures and videos of the truck circulating social media.

The campaign raised over $22,000 for Riles, who later purchased a brand-new truck.

A spokesperson for Gates says they've received several offers on the viral truck but turned them all down so far.

Gates noted there's no price range they are looking at, but they are torn on what to do with the vehicle.

The Gates spokesperson stated the dealer is in the process of trying to get a spot to display it at the upcoming South Bend Auto Show.

Gates is also exploring putting the viral vehicle up for auction and donating the proceeds to charity.

The truck is still listed online as available at Gates Chevrolet South Bend. The truck is listed as having 238,507 miles.
