Lincoln Township fire chief put on paid administrative leave
Lincoln Township Fire Department: Chief Brandon Chiarello BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Lincoln Township fire chief in Berrien County is now on paid administrative leave, but the exact reason has not been publicly released.
Chief Brandon Chiarello told ABC57 on Wednesday that he will not comment until after Thursday's township board meeting where his suspension is expected to be discussed.
Chiarello has been pushing to convert the mostly volunteer fire department to a paid firefighting force by hiring six full time firefighters.
Some taxpayers have questioned the costs of the changeover and how it will impact local property tax bills.
Chiarello's full statement to ABC57 is as follows:
“I’m aware of the situation and appreciate the community’s support. I respect the process currently underway and will not comment further at this time. I remain committed to serving the community and the department professionally. I will comment further after tomorrow’s meeting.”
