Lighting strike suspected cause of Monday house fire on Leeper Avenue

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Firefighters responded to the 1300 block of Leeper Avenue Monday afternoon for a house fire after an alleged lightning strike.

The South Bend Fire Department received the call just after 1:30 p.m.

The caller told crews a lightning strike occurred near the home.

Crews arrived to find a working fire, at which point they entered the home.

The report states crews quickly gained control of the fire.

No injuries have been reported, and no one was home at the time of the fire.

The fire's cause is believed to be lightning, according to investigators.

The investigation remains ongoing.
