Lengthy standoff with SWAT team in South Bend Thursday

SOUTH BEND, Ind - South Bend Police say shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Ottawa Court, just off of Lincolnway East, officers tried to apprehend a suspect, after receiving a call about a theft in progress.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Ottawa Court, to a theft in progress.

Upon arrival, officers were advised the suspect had barricaded himself into a home and was armed with a firearm, according to officials.

The SWAT team and negotiators were requested to the scene.

After a lengthy standoff, the SWAT team entered the home and detained the suspect without further incident.

The suspect was transported to the South Bend Detective Bureau.

Officials state the incident is still under investigation.
