SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department were called to the scene of a shooting involving multiple victims near Olive and Huron streets south of Western Avenue in South Bend around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.
At least four people suffered apparent gunshot wounds during the incident, which occurred just blocks away from where Mexican Independence Day festivities were being held. Multiple homes and buildings were also hit by gunfire.
South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said that at least 100 rounds were fired. He also confirmed shots were still going off even after officials arrived on scene.
Police have not yet released details on a suspect or what prompted the shooting.
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is currently handling the investigation.
