LaGrange healthcare worker accused of diverting meds from patients

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- A nurse at a local rehabilitation and skilled nursing center is facing serious charges after it was alleged that she was stealing narcotics and falsifying records late last year.
Fifty-three-year-old Sheri Lynn Hapner of LaGrange County was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Waters of LaGrange and has held numerous similar positions over the course of her 25+ year career, and she is now facing multiple felony charges.
Hapner started working at Waters of LaGrange on Sept. 25, 2024, and her final shift concluded with her leaving a letter of resignation on Jan. 19, 2025.
It is alleged that Hapner diverted medication from patients, failed to properly document medication administration, documented false information, and/or obtained controlled substances for her own use.
Pain relieving drugs Hydrocodone and Oxycodone are mentioned in the charging documents. Both drugs are opioids and classified as a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Hapner told authorities she has been an LPN for 25 years and was a Certified Nurse Assistant for eight years before that. She said she has also held the position of Director of Nursing.
Hapner has worked at different types of facilities over the course of her career, including a hospital, a clinic, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Hapner is charged with:
- Felony Failure to Make, Keep or Furnish Records
- Felony Furnishing False or Fraudulent Information
- Felony Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud or Deceit
