La Porte Police Chief Richard Buell LA PORTE, Ind. -- La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody announced via Facebook that La Porte Police Chief Richard Buell gave his formal resignation on Tuesday.
Buell, the city's police chief for a little over a year, stated he felt it was time to pass the torch.
Asst. Chief Matt Drangmeister has been named interim police chief,
Dermody said there's no timeline for the vetting process, but he anticipates an announcement for a permanent chief in the near future.
Buell spent most of his time with the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.
