Two men stabbed, one fatally, suspect in custody
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Deputies were called to a residence in the 300 block of Groveland Trail on Thursday at 9:21 a.m. to assist the Long Beach Police Department with an unknown problem, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.
Upon arrival, Deputy Justin Phillips met with Long Beach Police Chief Marshal Swistek, who informed Phillips that two men had been stabbed, and that a suspect involved with the situation had already been arrested.
The arrested individual is currently residing in the La Porte County Jail, and their identity is being withheld at this time, according to police.
64-year-old Denis J. Earley was identified as one of the victims, and died from his injuries during the incident.
73-year-old John Earley was identified as the other stabbing victim, and was initially transported to a local medical facility before later being flown to a regional trauma center for treatment.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were called in, and worked at the residence throughout the day to gather evidence and determine more details on the situation.
Officials say that the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
A probable cause affidavit has been submitted to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review and pending criminal charges.
