Knox Community Schools ends universal free meals for all students
Knox Community Schools KNOX, Ind. -- Universal free breakfast and lunch for all students will no longer be available beginning in the 2026-27 school year for Knox Community Schools.
Superintendent Greg Mikulich sent a letter to Knox schools' families explaining although free meals will not be available for all students, families may still qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
The full announcement letter from Mikulich can be read below:
"As we close out a successful school year, we are already looking ahead with excitement and preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. We are grateful for the opportunity to have provided universal free breakfast and lunch to all students this year, supporting the well-being and success of our school community.
As we move forward, please note that universal free meals will no longer be available to all students. However, families may still qualify for free or reduced-price meals. To be considered, students must either be directly certified or have a Free/Reduced Meal Application completed after July 1, 2026.
We encourage all families who may qualify to take advantage of this opportunity. Applications can be completed quickly and conveniently online at www.linqconnect.com. Our goal remains to support every student and family, and we are here to assist you through this process if needed."
The district will still offer its free Summer Feed program which begins June 2 and ends July 2.
Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m., while lunch will be served from 10:30 to 11:50 a.m.
Summer Feed will be hosted at the Elementary Building at 2 Redskin Trail in Knox.
No registration is needed. These meals are available to those 18 and younger.
