ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials say a juvenile has turned himself in following a shooting in the 100 block of Woodhill Lane in South Bend that killed 17-year-old Darnell A. Tobar, II.

A 16-year-old turned himself in around 8 p.m. Thursday and was arrested by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.

Authorities say the juvenile cooperated with investigators.

The 16-year-old was transported to the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center and detained.

He was arrested on preliminary suspicion of reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony if committed by an adult.

According to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, a petition alleging delinquency has not been filed.

The shooting is believed to have occurred as a result of the juveniles recklessly handling a gun, based on the results of the investigation.
