South Bend community went Over the Edge to raise money for youth

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Youth Service Bureau held their 10th annual Over the Edge event where people raised money for youth homelessness in St. Joseph County.

Youth Service Bureau's mission is to bring more awareness to youth homelessness and help through their shelters or services.

"We have six other programs that are all focused on immediate safety, crisis intervention shelter, and really giving young people and families an opportunity to live a different life," said Christina McGovern, the CEO of Youth Service Bureau.

Participants were geared up in harnesses and helmets, then they took the elevator in the Alolf hotel to rappel down 26 floors.

"I think everyone's scared to do something, but you're only on this earth for so long, so why not step off of it for a little bit and feel like a bird, or you know, a monkey or anything-it's just really fun," said Clinton Chamberlin, a participant.

This year marked the tallest building yet, but they do hope to go to greater heights.

"We really wanted something at the time that would be bring a little bit more awareness to our mission and to the issue of youth homelessness in St. Joe County, and what could you know attract more attention than people rappelling down a building," said McGovern
