ISP pursuit ends in crash with one arrested for OWI

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports a trooper began a pursuit with a suspected impaired driver in Mishawaka early morning Saturday near the intersection of N. Main Street and Catalpa Drive.
The pursuit continued through Mishawaka and into South Bend where the suspect crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Lincolnway and Twyckenham Drive.
Mishawaka and South Bend police also assisted in the pursuit.
Police say the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Clinton Johnson of South Bend, refused to get out of his crashed pick-up truck.
The report states during this standoff, Johnson put officers in danger by spinning his tires attempting to back into police but was stopped due to the truck being entangled with the other vehicle.
Officers with SBPD fired several rounds of pepper-ball projectiles into the crashed truck, which resulted in the Johnson surrendering and being taken into custody.
Johnson was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail for Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony, OWI-Prior, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Level 6 Felony, Reckless Driving, a Class B-Misdemeanor, and OWI-Endangerment, a Class A-Misdemeanor.
Police say the driver of the vehicle Johnson crashed into was cited for Operating a Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License and Illegal Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage by a Minor.
Despite having been drinking she was not found to be impaired.
