ISP investigating officer-involved shooting in Logansport

CASS COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports at the request of the Cass County Sheriff's Office, they are investigating an officer-involved shooting resulting in the in the death of a Logansport, Ind. man early Tuesday morning.

ISP detectives' preliminary investigation determined that on Tuesday morning around 12:23 a.m., deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the 3000 block of W. C.R. 500 S. regarding the reported stabbing of two people.

The report states upon arrival, deputies found one victim and began life-saving measures.

While retrieving more medical supplies from their patrol vehicle, authorities say a deputy spotted a man, identified as 35-year-old Christopher S. Evans of Logansport, armed with knives.

The report goes on to state the deputy issued several commands to Evans, but he failed to comply, which led to an altercation.

Police said Evans then charged at the deputy, who retreated into a nearby field.

The deputy then discharged their weapon, striking Evans at least once.

Authorities say despite life-saving efforts, Evans pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

Evans' next of kin has been notified.

Police say one victim remains in critical but stable condition, while the other victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No deputies were injured, and the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for the CCSO following an officer-involved shooting.

Authorities say this is an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.

ISP is leading the investigation with assistance from the Carroll County Coroner's Office and Carroll County Prosecutor's Office.

When the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the Carroll County Prosecutor's Office for review.
