INDIANAPOLIS— Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced Friday that inmates at Miami Correctional Facility are producing face masks, personal protection gowns, face shields, and hand sanitizer in response to COVID-19.

After the first case of coronavirus in Indiana was announced, the production lines at Miami Correctional were changed from making offender uniforms to making the personal protection equipment.

Over the course of a week, two lines produced 200 protection gowns and 200 masks per day. The facility is also producing 650 12-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer.

A production line at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is also planning to be repurposed to make personal protection equipment.

First responders and Department of Correction facilities will use the products made by the inmates.
