Indiana State Police participates in the 25th annual DEA "Prescription Drug Take Back"
On Saturday, October 28, collections sites will dispose of expired, unused and unwanted prescriptions drugs anonymously, and free, with no questions asked.
The "Take Back" initiative, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), aims to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by properly disposing of these drugs.
The DEA is hoping that by disposing of drugs, this will help reduce the opioid crisis by lowering overdoses and overdose deaths.
"We are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence," writes the DEA.
"Take Back" accepts liquid and pill medications as well as vaping pens, without batteries, and vaping cartridges.
Needles, new or used, will not be accepted.
Medications can be dropped off at any Indiana State Police posts, except for toll road posts, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The closest drop off locations are:
Michigan State Police Post in Niles (1600 Silverbrook Ave.)
Three Rivers Police Department (33 W Michigan Ave.)
Sturgis Police Department (122 N Nottawa St.)
