SHIPSHEWANA, Ind.—Shipshewana’s annual Ice Festival kicked off on Tuesday morning as participants began carving works of art into blocks of ice.
The huge blocks of ice arrived in downtown Shipshewana on Monday and carving began Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Master carvers will continue working throughout the day Tuesday.
The sculptures will be on display throughout the week in downtown Shipshewana as long as the weather remains cold enough.
The festival will only last one day this year but an ice carving competition will be held in mid-January.
Commemorative festival pins are available at Kitchen Cupboard and Jo Jo’s Pretzels in the Davis Mercantile
Shipshewana’s Lights of Joy drive-thru light display will be open December 29 from 6 to 9 p.m., December 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. and January 2 from 6 to 10 p.m.
