'Holy War' matchup off the field in annual Hunger Bowl
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Students at Marian High School participated in the annual Hunger Bowl food drive competition against longtime rival St. Joseph High School.
The Hunger Bowl, hosted by St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County took place on Friday ahead of the "Holy War" football game.
Student-athletes from both schools donned their jerseys as they assisted with the pickup and weigh-in of donated non-perishable food items collected by each school.
Nick Kaczynski, a Marian High Administrator, stated "So, part of our what we talk about at Marian is the Marian way. And we talk about, learn, serve, and lead. And this is part of our serving our community. So, while there are some economic disparities going on, we like to serve our community the best way we can, and that's why it's an annual tradition between Marion and St. Joe, and we just try to raise as much money as we can and as many food donations. We did raise over $5,000 which is equivalent to over 10,000 pounds of food being donated to St. Vincent de Paul. So, we love to partner with them. We love to help our community and just show what type of community that we have here at Marion High School."
