Health Department advises residents with wells to check for flooding

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – The Berrien County Health Department posted a reminder for residents with wells to inspect the area around it for flooding.

This reminder is not just limited to Berrien County, but for anyone that uses a well system.

If flood waters have impacted the well, your drinking water may be contaminated.

If the well head is damaged or has been submerged with flood water, residents should immediately stop using the well water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

Bottled water should be used until the well system is safe for use.

Once the water levels go down, contact your local Health Department for more information on how to test their well system and see if the water has become safe for use.
