SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame Women's Basketball star Hannah Hidalgo gears up for the first backpack giveaway through her foundation Hannah's Helping Hands.
Hidalgo is hosting her first back to school backpack give away. The giveaway will take place at the Aloft hotel in downtown South Bend and it's for students K-8th grade.
The foundation launched in February this year and focuses on outreach and philanthropic endeavors. Hannah's mother Tamara Hildago is leading the charge.
"We want to be able to help the children and do something positive for them. So we're looking at building the bridges and the gaps between economic and social, and it's important that we come together as a community to help our children and our youth," Tamara said.
"From the heart, I would want them to see Hannah's heart. She has a passion for children, and this was very important to her to be able to come into the community to help but we want people businesses. We want to work with everyone that's willing to lend a helping hand, which is the name of her foundation, to help within the community," Tamara added.
