NILES, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Coalition for Democracy gathered on Monday, Jan. 5, to commemorate the fifth-year mark since the attack on the US capital, but the US raid and capture of Nicolas Maduro dominated most of the discussion.

The demonstrators gathered outside Michigan Republican Congressman Tim Walberg's office and are accusing the Trump administration violating international law.

Jo Pederson, Co-Chair Coalition for Democracy Southwest Michigan, stated, "That's very unfortunate. Obviously. It happened a few days ago. We're still trying to sort it out, but there shouldn't be blood for oil. We've done this before, and it worked out horribly. I haven't seen a statement by our congressman. I'm sure we'll take that up again, but what Trump said in his interview was terrible, that this is about oil, this is about regime change. This is about taking over a sovereign nation and we're going to run it. It's ridiculous. It's terrible. I can't wait to see what my congressman Walberg says about that."
