BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – It was confirmed in a statement that Governor Gretchen Whitmer is looking over a proposal approved by officials from Benton Harbor Areas Schools.
Whitmer’s office states that they will base their decision on doing what is right for students.
Officials from the district structured the proposal around a set of 12-month benchmarks. The proposal presents a comprehensive plan seeking to improve academic performances and pay off $18.4 million dollars of debt.
The debt would be paid off via a bond fund.
This approved proposal is the latest in the ongoing saga of a possible shutdown of the district.
