Gov. Whitmer signs executive order to restrict price gouging
(ABC 57) – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order on Sunday to restrict excessive pricing.
According to a statement from Whitmer’s office, the executive order states “If a business or individual has acquired any product from a retailer, the business or individual must not resell that product in Michigan at a price that is grossly in excess of the purchase price of the product.”
Businesses and individuals cannot sell a product for more than twenty percent higher than the original offering.
Price gouging has allegedly become an issue during the growing concerns of COVID-19 due to individuals purchasing items in excess in an attempt to sell them for a much higher price.
The order will go into effect on Monday and last until April 13.
