GOSHEN, Ind. -- After federal funding cuts led to Goshen AmeriCorps workers being told to stop reporting for service, the city of Goshen reallocated Forestry grand funds to hire on those workers as temporary city employees so that they could finish their projects.
The five former AmeriCorps workers are now referred to as "GoshenCorps" and are able to continue working on their ongoing projects with the city's Department of Environmental Resiliency.
Some of those projects include maintenance plans for local parks, food and habitat gardens and general city park improvement.
Many of the projects being worked on have been ongoing for more than eight months.
The department isn't sure what the future holds for their partnership with AmeriCorps and whether or not they'll be able to bring more workers to the city to help in the future if federal funding issues persist.
