'Golden Bachelor' Gerry from Indiana makes his TV debut
Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner, 71, sat down with host Jesse Palmer during The Bachelorette Men Tell All special last night on ABC for the first time.
Viewers were able to learn about the Indiana native's backstory, which was an emotional one.
Turner was married to the love of his life, Toni, for 43 years. They had two daughters together, and two granddaughters.
They purchased their dream home in May of 2017. Shortly after in June, Toni became ill from a bacterial infection that affected her kidneys and liver.
Turner tearfully shared that she passed away on July 15 that year.
"Every time I look at that lake, I go, 'this is HER dream. This is what SHE deserves. Why am I standing here alone?'" said Turner.
"No one's ever going to replace Toni. But the love of my daughters and my granddaughters pulled me out of a dark spot."
The package showed Turner practicing handing out roses to his daughters and granddaughters.
"My dad is just such a fun guy. So personable and loveable, so kind and he has so much to give. He just deserves to find that in somebody else," shared Gerry's daughter, Angie.
"Can you find a love like that twice in a lifetime?" Palmer asked.
Turner answered, "I believe I'll find my person. The new person that will make me whole again. I think we'll knit a wonderful relationship, but I don't think it'll look like the relationship I had with Toni. It wouldn't be right to do it that way."
Turner expressed he is very much looking forward to this journey ahead, which begins this September on ABC.
