Gary man charged with murder in Michigan City shooting

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports the La Porte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call on May 29 around 10:58 p.m. from a man claiming someone was trying to kill him.

The caller was believed to be in the area of Dewey Street and Michigan Boulevard.

Officers arrived on scene and located a man a block from that location and while speaking with him another man exited 1824 E. Michigan Blvd. and told police someone had been shot inside the residence.

Police say the situation was rapidly evolving and officers from other area agencies responded to assist.

Authorities learned two men had been shot while inside the residence.

The victims were identified as 25-year-old Treven Armstrong, of Gary, and his brother, 24-year-old Christopher, of Indianapolis.

Treven did not survive his wounds.

Christopher was taken to Franciscan Hospital with life threatening wounds and later to South Bend Memorial Hospital for advanced care.

The MCPD Investigative Division was called to the scene and took over the investigation.

With assistance from the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office, a search warrant was obtained for the residence.

The scene was processed, evidence collected, and witnesses were interviewed.

Police say information was obtained indicated 23-year-old D’Marcus Thompson, of Gary, was responsible for the shooting.

Thompson was located in the 300 block of S. Woodland Avenue and taken into custody.

The report states Thompson was in possession of a 9mm handgun at the time.

A La Porte County Circuit Court judge determined probable cause existed and an arrest warrant was issued.

Thompson is charged with Murder, a Felony, Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony, Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Criminal Recklessness, a Level 5 Felony.

Thomson's bond was set at $1 million cash only.
