Fugitive surrenders after short standoff with deputies

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A man wanted in Kalamazoo County was arrested after a short standoff with SWAT and deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Kalamazoo officials asked the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office for assistance arresting a fugitive who was wanted on outstanding felony warrants.

Deputies arrived to the 28000 block of CR 215 in Arlington Township  Tuesday evening and saw a man outside who matched the description of the fugitive, reports said.

The man saw the deputies and ran into the house.

Deputies confirmed the man was the wanted fugitive.

After making contact with other occupants of the house, deputies learned the subject was barricaded in a bedroom, armed with a shotgun, reports said.

Sheriff Daniel Abbott and the SWAT team responded to the scene.

After a short standoff, the subject, a 28-year-old man from Bangor Michigan, surrendered his shotgun to Sheriff Abbott and was taken into custody without further incident, deputies said.

The man was handed over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office pending arraignment on outstanding warrants.
