Former Elkhart mail carrier pleads guilty to hiding over 900 pieces of mail

Elkhart County Jail

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After several customers complained of missing mail in October of 2023, 52-year-old Elkhart resident Tyson Scott was arrested and charged with Delay of Mail by a Postal Service Employee. He pled guilty and, on Wednesday, he was sentenced to 12 months on probation.

"While Scott initially claimed he had delivered the mail in question, he later admitted that he hid over 900 pieces of mail in a storage unit instead of delivering it," the United States Justice Department said. "After a search of the storage unit, the mail was found, and the U.S. Postal Service was able to successfully deliver the mail to its customers."
