Frigid, snowy conditions start tonight
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph Counties, MI due to blowing snow and high gusts causing visibility issues and slippery road conditions. These advisories are in effect from 11am Wednesday to 4pm Friday. Widespread snow in Michiana, everywhere should see a dusting thanks to a cold front that will sweep through this afternoon. It could bring breezy conditions; visibility may be an issue as you are heading home from work tonight. After the front passes through, winds from the west-northwest kick the lake effect machine in gear, bringing overnight snow to our southwest Michigan counties that continues into the morning. The highest totals our viewing area could see are expected to be around 4 inches, with the heavier snow falling closer to Kalamazoo. Portions of Indiana near the border could see 1-2 inches, though with the slightest change in wind direction areas could see more or less. Gusty conditions are of concern for the entire viewing area, with gusts likely near 40 degrees into Thursday morning bringing wind chill values below zero. Clouds part Thursday afternoon with a milder weekend ahead.
