Four Winds Casino still looking for employees, as hotel expansion sets date for grand opening
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Four Winds Casino staff took a walkthrough of the nearly finished hotel expansion, set to open its doors at 10:00am on March 1.
“We think that we’ll be able to provide a Four Winds Style guest experience whether you’re a gamer or whether you’re a non-gamer,” said Four Winds CEO Frank Freedman. “And that’s what we’re really hoping to accomplish here.”
Pokagon Band of Potawatomi’s Tribal Chairwoman Rebecca Richards added “We are opening and we are just excited to be in this market, to be in South Bend and to offer the hotel amenity.”
Boasting 317 rooms, 83 suites, a restaurant, spa and a conference and event center, Freedman said that, while construction is finished, these last few weeks are when the real work begins—with training the staff and putting on the finishing touches.
“Now the fun starts, I mean, quite honestly,” he said. “That ramp up happens now.”
Though the casino is still working to fill the roughly 400 the jobs the hotel expansion is adding.
“We’ve already hired quite a few people,” said Freedman. “We’re ahead of that hiring curve right now. I’m not going to lie, it’s been challenging across the United States, and it remains so.”
But Freedman added the casino has long worked to provide excellent healthcare benefits and wages to its staff, which they say has been beneficial to attracting and retaining their workforce.
With this expansion, the casino is set to provide over 1,200 jobs in the South Bend area, and collectively nearly 3,000 jobs with all their locations.
“Producing jobs is important,” Freedman said. “It gives folks an opportunity to have a meaningful career with us.”
