There are now at least 14 republican candidates vying for Jackie Waloski's now-vacant 2nd district congressional seat.

Arguably the highest profile is former Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill.

After serving as Elkhart County Prosecutor, Hill was the top law enforcement official in the state of Indiana until Hill lost his bid for reelection to Todd Rokita in 2020.

When asked by ABC57 News why he should be the Republican nominee for the 2nd district; along with supporting conservative policies, Hill said his name recognition could make him a more electable candidate come November.

"I have a national profile. Having worked as an attorney general for a number of years, I worked in Washington D.C. on occasions, joining my colleagues across the country," Hill said.

But one of the issues Curtis Hill is most recognized for, is the 2018 allegations from three legislative staffers that Hill drunkenly groped them at a bar. Though it lead to Hill's legal license being revoked for 30 days, Hill still denies that claims; describing them a political attack.

"One of the things that Hoosiers found out about Curtis Hill in the last number of years, is that I can take a punch," Hill said. "I took some of the most brutal allegations that I think anybody has seen in Indiana history. And I stood up. I stood tall, stood strong, did my job to work effectively as attorney general for the next two and a half years. And got stronger as a result."

A caucus inside Grissom Middle School, August 20, at 11am will determine the Republican candidate for November's special election. The winner will likely will be the same candidate to represent the Republican Party for the general election. The Indiana Democratic Party plans to hold its own formal caucus by the end of the month.
