Five arrested in shooting on Carroll Street
SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- Five people have been arrested following a shooting that left one woman injured.
The shooting happened on South Carroll Street near East Fox Street around 3:24 p.m. Thursday.
Police say they stopped a vehicle Thursday evening on Portage Avenue because it matched the description of a vehicle believed to have been seen in the area where the shooting occurred. All five people inside the vehicle were detained by police and taken in for questioning.
After investigating, police arrested all five individuals.
- Jermaine Newsome was arrested for attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a handgun without a license, and resisting law enforcement. He's being held at the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond.
- Mario Gray was arrested for possession of a handgun without a license, operator never licensed, and assisting a criminal. He's being held at the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond.
- Derrell Ewing was arrested for possession of a handgun without a license. He was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and later released on a $500 bond.
- One 16-year-old was arrested for attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a handgun without a license, and resisting law enforcement.
- Another 16-year-old juvenile was arrested for possession of a handgun without a license.
Police say this case has been forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office for determination of formal charges.
Newsome was arrested in March for allegedly shooting a man in the face. The victim survived. Newsome is currently charged with Robbery Resulting in Bodily Injury. He posted a $5,000 bond 9 days before this latest shooting.
South Bend Police say these arrests were made possible due to the collaboration of patrol officers, the Strategic Focus Unit, and detectives with the Investigative Bureau.
