BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Benton Harbor High School unveiled the first look Wednesday of Coach Paul Wilhite Court.
The floor inside Farnum Gymnasium had not been replaced since 1954 until this project was approved.
Wilhite coached the boys' varsity basketball team at Benton Harbor for decades and took the team to multiple state championship appearances.
“This is a testament to the students, staff, and community that when we work together for a common cause great things can happen,” said Superintendent Dr. Butts. “We are working together and great things are happening in and for the students, staff, and community of Benton Harbor. As your Superintendent, I am committed to continuing the mission and vision of Benton Harbor Area Schools.”
He started his career as a Phys-Ed teacher in 1965 and coached the JV team for more than 15 years.
The court will be officially dedicated in his honor on Dec. 16 prior to the boys' varsity home game.
President Dashuna Robinson, who played an instrumental role in the dedication, expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m extremely honored that my very first vote as a board member is coming to fruition today when I am in the position of President of the Board of Education. This is truly an honor.”
