Firefighters save dog from Monday afternoon housefire, residents safely escape
South Bend Fire Department SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department reports crews responded to a housefire just after noon, Monday, in the 1800 block of East Fox Street.
Crews arrived to find a fire in the kitchen with smoky conditions.
Firefighters began an attack on the interior flames.
Fire officials say the residents were able to evacuate prior to their arrival. Only one person was sent to the hospital for further evaluation after being checked out on scene.
While searching the home, firefighters found an unresponsive dog, which they immediately removed from the residence.
Medics on scene provided care for the dog. After a few minutes, fire officials said the dog regained consciousness, was alert, and began moving around.
The report states the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
