MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Marshall County Sheriff's Department held their annual Firearm Safety Training event, teaching all kinds of gun owners the risks behind their weapon.
The event has happened every year for six years now and teaches not just potential gun owners what they need to know but gives refreshers to existing gun owners.
Various topics are covered, including firearm maintenance, operations, home defense, and the legal aspect of carrying a gun.
"So, the topics go from specifically targeting safety. I mean, obviously we're trying to prevent any kind of a tragedy or anything like that happening from an accident at home, but also beyond that, we go into how a firearm operates, as well as how firearm can be used in home defense and legal issues and so forth. Talk a lot about carry concerns and then weapons cleaning, maintenance so forth," stated The Training and Firearms Director Sergeant Ryan Hollopeter.
The course overall is designed to prevent accidents and ensure responsible firearm handling.
