SOUTH BEND, Ind. --Trains are moving again on the tracks near the South Bend airport. Around 1 p.m., a freight train stopped because of smoke coming from one of its cars.
The train was stopped on the tracks west of Mayflower, just west of the South Bend airport.
Investigators said it appeared trash caught fire and caused the smoke.
The train was stopped in South Bend for about four hours, then continued to Gary.
Because the tracks were blocked, one South Shore Line train was delayed about an hour.
Correction: We originally reported the fire was aboard a South Shore Line train. The South Shore train was delayed because of smoke on a freight train car, it was not a South Shore Line train on fire.
